BAROQUE TOUR: NOTO, MODICA AND RAGUSA - Excursion from Taormina
A visit to discover the baroque historic center of Noto, a UNESCO heritage site
we'll walk along the main street of lower Noto, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, to admire the enchanting facades of the main churches, convents, and palaces built by the most important religious orders and aristocratic families. We will then move to the upper part of the city along Via Corrado Nicolaci.
During this day we will also visit Modica
Modica it is considered as one of the most picturesque cities in Sicily for a specific reason. Its structure, in fact, is characterized by an upper part (Modica Alta) and a lower part (Modica Bassa). In the upper part it is possible to admire the buildings carved from the mountain rock on which the city stands. Down, however, it is possible to walk along the famous Corso Umberto, the historic street of the city.
The city offers many ideas for admiring Baroque art.
Modica is also well-known for its chocolate. Famous throughout the world, it takes an ancient Aztec recipe. Obtained with a particular "cold" process, it is a dark chocolate flavored with exotic spices
The day's itinerary continues towards Ragusa, in Val di Noto. The city rises on the Iblean Mountains and is divided into two areas: Ragusa Superiore and Ragusa Ibla.
Ragusa Superiore is the most modern part, while Ragusa Ibla, which constitutes the historic center of the city, is the oldest part. This is where our visit focuses.
Taking an uphill road we reach the Cathedral of San Giorgio, the patron saint of the city. ry suggestive.
